Wisdom II 04:06
And, all the while The wisdom that grants discernment Is crying aloud, she is never silent There she stands By the public way, Where the roads meet, Close beside the gates, making proclamation To every man, high and low Her voice calls: O foolish hearts, take warning here Listen to me A tongue that speaks truth Lips that scorn impiety Here all is sound doctrine Here is counsel Here is instruction Better worth than Silver or finest gold Wisdom is more to be coveted More than any jewel More than any earthly beauty Wisdom cries out Wisdom cries out Wisdom cries

I see the shadows In the way you act I see the pain In the way you attack Holy men standing At the precipice Hoping that the word Will come back When will we see you again Looking for a guide Which they can never find The end of days Have been rolling by As the blind lead the blind To the pit Blaspheming life For the evil one He will never quit When will we see you again Heresy and lies An unwise disguise For the discerning eye of God Has joined us inside Our temple of time When will we see you In rivers of blood Babylon floods For her rejection Of the holy one In rivers of blood Babylon floods For her rejection Of the holy one Make straight the way he's arrived The Christ has come to the dark side The lamb of God who takes away The sins of the world Make straight the way he's arrived The Christ has come to the dark side The lamb of God who takes away The sins of the world I have read these holy books Old foundations destroyed Old hopes are restored Silent desires revivified Mastery of self in sight And the world lying At my feet Crucified by the dark side Crucified by the dark side Crucified by the dark side Yet he's alive Ancient Babylon never died The wicked serpent Keeps the lie alive Ancient Babylon never died The wicked serpent Keeps the lie alive Crucified by the dark side Crucified by the dark side Crucified by the dark side Yet he's alive Yet he's alive He's alive Yet he's alive

Just another day in exile Ill used and misinterpreted Despised and covered in lies Just another day in exile In the land they make In the service of the Lord Is my stake Dreaded visions The world in division Just another day in exile Just another day in exile Exile him, exile him Exile him, exile him Exile him, exile him Exile him, exile him I, John, your brother Who share your ill-usage Your royal dignity And your endurance in Christ Jesus Was set down on the island called Patmos For love of God’s word and of the truth concerning Jesus And there, on the Lord’s day I fell into a trance, and heard behind me a voice So I turned, to see what voice it was That was speaking to me

Apokalypse I 07:56
Then a vision came to me I saw a door in heaven standing open And the same voice Which I had heard speaking to me before Loud as the call of a trumpet, said to me Come up to my side And all at once I was in a trance And saw where a throne stood in heaven And one sat there enthroned. He who sat there bore The semblance of a jewel Jasper or sardius And there was a rainbow About the throne Like a vision of emerald. Round it were twenty-four seats And on these sat twenty-four elders Clothed in white garments With crowns of gold on their heads Lightnings came out from the throne And mutterings, and thunders And before it burned seven lamps Which are the seven spirits of God Facing it was a whole sea of glass, like crystal And in the midst, where the throne was Round the throne itself, were four living figures That had eyes everywhere to see Before them and behind them. The first figure was that of a lion The second that of an ox The third had a man’s look And the fourth was that of an eagle in flight Each of the four figures had six wings With eyes everywhere looking outwards and inwards Day and night they cried unceasingly Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God And now I saw that he who sat on the throne Carried in his right hand a scroll... Then, in my vision The Lamb broke open One of the seven seals And with that I heard one of the Four living figures say, in a voice like thunder Come and look So I looked, and saw there a white horse Whose rider carried a bow A crown was given him And he rode out victorious And to win victory And when he broke the second seal I heard the second figure say Come and look And a second horse came out, fiery-red Whose rider was empowered to Take away all peace from the world Bidding men slay one another And a great sword was given to him. And when he broke the third seal I heard the third figure say Come and look So I looked, and saw there a black horse Whose rider carried in his hand a pair of scales I thought, too, I heard a voice That came from where the living figures were A silver piece, it said, for a quart of wheat A silver piece for three quarts of barley But do the wine and the oil no hurt And when he broke the fourth seal I heard the voice of the fourth living figure say Come and look So I looked, and saw there a cream-white horse Its rider was called Death And Hell went at his bridle-rein He was allowed to have his way With all the four quarters of the world Killing men by the sword, by famine By plague, and through wild beasts That roam the earth And when he broke the fifth seal I saw there, beneath the altar The souls of all who had been slain For love of God’s word And of the truth they held Crying out with a loud voice Sovereign Lord, the holy, the true How long now before thou wilt sit in judgement And exact vengeance for our blood From all those who dwell on earth Whereupon a white robe was given To each of them, and they were bidden To take their rest a little while longer Until their number had been made up By those others, their brethren and fellow servants Who were to die as they had died Then, in my vision, he broke the sixth seal And with that there was a great earthquake And the sun grew dark as sackcloth And the whole moon blood-red The stars of heaven fell to earth Like unripe fruit shaken from a fig-tree When a high wind rocks it The sky folded up like a scroll And disappeared No mountain, no island But was removed from its place The kings of the world with their noblemen And their captains, men of wealth and of strength All alike, slaves and free men Took shelter in caves and rock-fastnesses Among the hills Fall on us, they said to the hills And the rocks, and hide us from The presence of him who sits on the throne And from the vengeance of the Lamb Which of us can stand his ground Now that the great day The day of their vengeance, has come Then he broke open the seventh seal; and For about half an hour There was silence in heaven

Tornado in the soul The circle comes around Is there nowhere we can go The demons have all been bound Tornado in their minds As these idols get pulled down To loosen sinners binds Mercy the Lord's renown Tornado in the hearts Of all these men you've made The Devil's progress in their arts In exchange for fruitless graves Tornado in the word Venom in the blood A sword brought by narrow path From old root a sprouted bud And I'm praying for mercy again With eyes that see Their evil ways A mans been made to stand Accused and stranded, stranded To be pinned upon a cross And be forsaken And abandoned By this Necropolis Then I saw a new heaven And a new earth The old heaven The old earth had vanished And there was no more sea And I, John, saw in my vision That holy city which is The new Jerusalem Being sent down by God from heaven All clothed in readiness Like a bride who has adorned herself To meet her husband I heard, too, a voice which cried Aloud from the throne Here is God’s tabernacle Pitched among men He will dwell with them And they will be his own people And he will be among them Their own God. He will wipe away every tear From their eyes And there will be no more death Or mourning, or cries of distress No more sorrow Those old things have passed away And he who sat on the throne said Behold, I make all things new

about

The Lord of Vanity trilogy is a Neo-Classical composition, with several cross genre elements contained within it.

This trilogy tries to "put on" the clothes of many different styles, ideas, and mental attitudes; and direct them toward the contemplation of one of the seven deadly sins that plague the human experience "vanity."

The trilogy is abstract and exegetical in it's content.

At the level of medium Lord of Vanity reflects my work as a composer/song-writer through the perspective of three different producers.

Act I through the perspective of my brother Joshua

Act II offering my own perspective

Act III through the perspective of my friend Garrison Meyer

The whole trilogy draws influence from the spirit of Menippean Satire, of which literary critic Northrop Frye notes, "...moves rapidly between styles and points of view...Such satires deal less with human characters than with the single-minded mental attitudes, or "humours", that they represent: the pedant, the braggart, the bigot, the miser, the quack, the seducer, etc."

Act I is a confluent album that has a thematic construction. It deals primarily with the theme of an unwillingness to "change ones mind" and the myriad disordered desires that drive a soul toward vain pursuits.

Act II consists of more stand alone tracks each treated with varying elements in both arrangement and style. The songs rotate around a thematic axis of the experiences, both good and bad, of the human soul.

Act III is built around scriptural exegesis, touching on themes of spiritual warfare, conversion, exile, apocalypse, and more.

There is more that could be said, but I will let the work speak for itself.

Thank you for listening to Lord of Vanity Act III!
