Soul 02:00
Do I have a soul? I thought I did. I've prayed...I've prayed with all my might. I still pray, yet the world is dark. Will they ever leave these evil ways? Have we lost our souls?

Gossip they carry Attached to your name While the strife And the vengeance creep Right up their brains While they form an image of you While they form an image of you Darkness consumes them From inside their caves While they seek after shadows cast From well beyond their gaze Yet they claim an image of you Yet they claim an image of you Buffalo Barbie You stubborn ox Won't you come out Of your little box Buffalo Barbie You stubborn ox Won't you come out Of your little box The gossip they carry Attached to your name While the lust And the malice creeps Right up the brain As they stare at an image of you As they stare at an image of you An object for playtime A toy in their chest They'll use you And abuse you And toss you with the rest While they feed on the image of you While they feed on the image of you Buffalo Barbie You stubborn ox Won't you come out Of your little box Buffalo Barbie You stubborn ox Won't you come out Of your little box Won't you Oh, won't you come out Oh, won't you Oh, Won't you come out

Lonely 03:20
I'm sorry dear For what you've done You must not Turn back toward me now You lost yourself In fallen ways And I can't Fall no further I felt your love Your soul was heard You know you Pierced right through me Your gift of self Thrown to the wind Like dust it's Blowing all around. Your tender flesh For hungry ghosts You know, that I can Hear them feeding You must be real lonely To let them take from you You must be real lonely To let them prey on you You say you have This love to give Yet you receive Hearts of darkness You claim to know The way you go Yet blind paths Are what you wander The shadow fruit Your gift of self Is where they place the siphon They take your flesh For easy days To make a feeding frenzy They dig these graves In infertile ground Death is the seed they scatter Your gift of self Turned to a corpse The price of their violation You must be real lonely To let them take from you You must be real lonely To let them prey on you

Believe 04:04
You better believe You better believe That this world's that cold Didn't you know He's a stone cold killer Yet he cannot kill your soul Like a blood hungry hound He'll chase you down As he sends his demons To beat you around He'll cast you out For a real small error Drag you down In a night of terror You better believe That his world's that cold You better believe That the world's that cold Didn't you know He's a stone cold killer But he cannot Kill your soul You better believe This world's that cold You better believe You better believe You better believe That this world's that cold Didn't you know He's a stone cold killer You better protect your soul You better believe This world has gotten to me I'm growing old And it's turned me cold You better believe This world has taken from me Parts of my soul And it's made me cold Oh, but I want my soul Oh, I want my soul I'm growing old Where are you love I'm so alone Turning cold My hearts gone Cold

Necropolis 04:04
Born wasted And made to die To lose worth And chase an appetite Slaughter The city I was born I've left behind They smoke another cigarette Hanging from a lifeline They do another pirouette Dancing through these lies They hush their words About their sins and crime In this Necropolis Born innocent Degraded in due time A childhood turned degenerate To feed their appetites Slaughter This wicked age they make I'll leave behind They smoke another cigarette Hanging from a lifeline They do another pirouette Dancing through these lies They hush their words About their sins and crime In this Necropolis Born again This flesh is mine To stand witness To sacrament and sign Slaughter This fallen world I've left behind They smoke another cigarette Hanging from a lifeline They do another pirouette Dancing through these lies They hush their words About their sins and crime In this Necropolis Another soul wasted The power's mine Another life taken It's my right To slaughter I need to control And move ahead The other corpses here In this city of the dead Slaughter This is the life I need oh To move ahead In this city of the dead Of dust and bone The graveyard I call my home Slaughter This is my home This Necropolis

Well the thief The thief was a genius Or were we fools Or were we fools Was it a trick Was it all left here Who understood Who understood Well the thief was a genius Or were we fools Or were we fools Who knew that he would trick us all Who knew that he would even trick us all This time we aren't playing here Life has just become sincere This message burns Into your ears Just keep it so clear The thief was a genius The thief was a genius Who knew he would even trick us all Who knew we could be tricked Who Who knew that we could be tricked Who knew Life has a way Of slowing down Every once in a while Slow...slow The thief was a genius He stole part of me too As if we could be tricked As if we could be tricked Who knew...who knew There was something to steal Who knew...who knew Who knew...who knew

Polarity 03:12
The love you seek Is flowering In the heart of A holy soul The words you speak Empowering a life For this lonely road The touch you share Is comforting This place that I call My home The love you give Is flowering In the heart Of her lonely soul I love you Override this polarity By loving all the time The uncivilized sacrifice Has been unauthorized In beloved eyes A piercing gaze that goes Beyond the grave This fruit is ripe The tree stands firm Between the battle line The love you give Is flowering In the heart Of her lonely soul The words you speak Empowering for a life On this lonely road The touch you share Is comforting This place that I call my home The love you seek Is flowering in the heart Of a holy soul The love you give Is flowering in her heart The words you share Empowering Empowering The touch we have Is home...I am home When I'm with you I am home

Half-life 02:54
So few can say from the fire Of their innocence So few can say from the freedom Of their discipline I've burned myself Yes I've played with fire too But I won't settle On a half-life No I won't settle On a half-life I won't give you A half-hearted love So few can say from the wisdom Of their penitence So few can say with a vision of integralness I've burnt myself Yes I've played with fire too But I won't settle On a half-life No I won't settle On a half-life I won't give you A half-hearted love Darling this love is for you Beloved this love is for you

about

The Lord of Vanity trilogy is a Neo-Classical composition, with several cross genre elements contained within it.

This trilogy tries to "put on" the clothes of many different styles, ideas, and mental attitudes; and direct them toward the contemplation of one of the seven deadly sins that plague the human experience "vanity."

The trilogy is abstract and exegetical in it's content.

At the level of medium Lord of Vanity reflects my work as a composer/song-writer through the perspective of three different producers.

Act I through the perspective of my brother Joshua

Act II offering my own perspective

Act III through the perspective of my friend Garrison Meyer

The whole trilogy draws influence from the spirit of Menippean Satire, of which literary critic Northrop Frye notes, "...moves rapidly between styles and points of view...Such satires deal less with human characters than with the single-minded mental attitudes, or "humours", that they represent: the pedant, the braggart, the bigot, the miser, the quack, the seducer, etc."

Act I is a confluent album that has a thematic construction. It deals primarily with the theme of an unwillingness to "change ones mind" and the myriad disordered desires that drive a soul toward vain pursuits.

Act II consists of more stand alone tracks each treated with varying elements in both arrangement and style. The songs rotate around a thematic axis of the experiences, both good and bad, of the human soul.

Act III is built around scriptural exegesis, touching on themes of spiritual warfare, conversion, exile, apocalypse, and more.

There is more that could be said, but I will let the work speak for itself.

Thank you for listening to Lord of Vanity Act II!
